Alocasia Chantrierii is a hybrid between two familiar species, Alocasia cuprea and the silver-patterned Alocasia sanderiana .
The appearance of Alocasia Chantrierii leans more towards Alocasia cuprea in leaf shape, while the marked veins and serrated edges clearly show the influence of Alocasia sanderiana . Its elegant and rapid growth is likely to ensure a rapid spread of the hybrid as an ornamental plant.
Care.
Alocasia Chantrieri thrives in well-drained, moisture-retaining soil , a mix of two parts coco peat and one part perlite works well. Place it in bright, indirect light . Keep the soil moist at all times , but not wet, let the top layer dry out between waterings. High humidity is important, so feel free to use a humidifier or a tray of water and rocks under the pot. The plant thrives in warm temperatures and does not tolerate cold. Fertilize sparingly during the growing season with a slightly diluted nutrient every other week.
Botanical description.
Alocasia 'Chantrierii' comes from the well-known Chantrier Frères greenhouse, run by brothers Adolphe and Ernest Chantrier in Mortefontaine, France. The plant parents originate from tropical Asia.
Appearance.
The upper surface of the leaf has a metallic sheen with a whitish midrib and primary lateral veins. The shape is egg-cordate with a slightly deeply wavy incised edge. The posterior lobes are about half the size of the anterior ones, fused beyond the middle and separated by a narrow, pointed indentation in the remaining part. Buy Alocasia chantrieri online!
