Read before ordering beneficial insects online [Important].

Our supplier Biobasiq ships fresh beneficial insects every Monday. Place your order no later than Sunday at 12:00 PM to have them shipped the following Monday. If your order is placed after Sunday, it will be shipped the Monday after that. The beneficial insects are shipped to your mailbox; please keep this in mind when ordering during winter if your mailbox is located outdoors. When temperatures drop in early November, orders are shipped to a PostNord service point instead of the mailbox.

Orius bugs are the most effective beneficial insects you can use against thrips; they consume both adults and all larval stages of most thrips species.

Orius bugs primarily target thrips. An adult bug can consume 20 thrips a day, but they can also feed on other pests such as spider mites, cyclamen mites, aphids, and whiteflies. If you only have an infestation of pests other than thrips, you should instead use beneficial insects that are specifically effective against those pests.

How are they used?

The Orius bugs are sprinkled onto the foliage of plants infested with thrips. For plants with narrow leaves, or where it is otherwise difficult to place the beneficial insects on the leaves, you can purchase bio-boxes to hang in the plant.

The adult bugs can fly and spread easily throughout the plants. The nymphs can move between plants as long as the leaves are touching. Orius bugs are sometimes difficult to find among the plants, as they like to hide in crevices and in the buckwheat husks they are transported with.

Feel free to combine Orius with the use of yellow sticky traps. You can also combine them with Swirskii predatory mites or thrips predatory mites in sachets. 

Orius bugs can be used both out in the greenhouse and indoors. Indoors, they do not seek out pantries, bedding, or the like, but because they can fly, it is a matter of personal preference whether you wish to use them inside.

Orius bugs are sensitive to various pesticides, and you should therefore be careful with releasing them after using, for example, Provado/Provanto sticks. Plants can be sprayed with soft soap before releasing Orius, but the spray must have dried completely before the release.
