Dracaena marginata, a sculptural plant from Reunion
The species has probably only been found in the wild once, and all cultivated plants originate from this collection. Dracaena marginata is a synonym for Dracaena
This slender, architectural houseplant is known for its tall stems and narrow, upright leaves. The plant remains clean, sculptural, and adaptable to a wide variety of interior design styles.
It can grow 4 meters tall. The plant can be grown in virtually any pattern, with the most popular forms being bush, straight stem, staggered stems, tree form, and customized shapes.
Several cultivars are available with variegated leaves in red or pale yellow.
Care
Prefers bright consistent lighting throughout the day. Bright, even light supports fuller leaf clusters and healthier stem growth. Once placed, keep the plant in a stable location so it can acclimate.
Requires a minimum temperature of 15°C and is more tolerant than most plants of dry soil and irregular watering, but sensitive to root rot in permanently wet soil. Thanks to minimal care, it is very popular in offices where constant heat and light suit its growing requirements.
Allow the soil to dry out at least halfway down before re-watering. Drying times vary depending on light, temperature, and indoor airflow. Water slowly and evenly to moisten the soil without creating weight. Always check below the surface with your finger before watering.
The Dragon Tree prefers a calm, predictable cycle of drying and rehydrating. Slight drooping or softness in the leaves can signal that the soil has completely dried out. Yellowing or browning tips often indicate too frequent watering. Aim for a balanced rhythm that allows the plant to dry out consistently between waterings. Buy Dracaena marginata online!
