Flamingo flower care

This flowering houseplant is easy to care for and does not require much time or energy. In its natural habitat in tropical rainforests, the Flamingo flower grows on other plants as an epiphyte. This type of plant gets access to more light than other plants in the forest undergrowth.

When grown indoors, the plant thrives in indirect bright light, preferably an east or west window. To get a flower on the flamingo plant, it is important that it also gets the right soil.

Flamingo flower transplanting

The flamingo flower needs well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. A mixture of coco coir, perlite and bark works great. When repotting, choose a pot that is slightly larger than the current one, so that the roots have room to grow. It is best to repot in the spring, when the plant is actively growing.

Watering is also an important part of care. Flamingo flower prefers the soil to be kept evenly moist, but avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Always let the top layer of soil dry out between waterings. During the winter months, you can reduce watering slightly, as the plant enters a dormant period.

To promote flowering, you can feed the plant with a liquid fertilizer every two weeks during the growing season, from spring to fall. Be sure to follow the instructions on the fertilizer package to avoid overfertilizing.

The flamingo flower is also sensitive to temperature changes. It thrives best in temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Avoid placing it in drafty areas or near heat sources, as this can stress the plant.

By following these simple care tips, you can enjoy a beautiful and blooming flamingo flower in your home for a long time to come.
