A very rare species from the state of Espírito Santo in eastern Brazil
Philodendron spiritus-sancti is highly sought after by collectors due to its long, narrow leaves and mysterious history. It grows only in Brazil, in the state of Espírito Santo, near the city of Domingos Martins, an area located about 800 meters above sea level.
The species is well known among collectors of aroids, as it is one of the rarest in its genus and occurs only in this small corner of the world.
Botanical description
The species is found only in the state Espírito Santo and that is where it gets its name. In Brazil, Philodendron spiritus-sancti is sometimes called “Philodendron Santa Leopoldina” , an older name referring to the region where the species first became known.
Care
Growers in Brazil recommend a very airy and well-draining substrate. A mixture of dried leaves or shredded moss (e.g. sphagnum), a little soil, orchid bark and possibly charcoal. It is important that the material retains moisture, but never becomes wet or compacted. The goal is a substrate that provides good air circulation around the roots while maintaining even humidity.
Philodendron spiritus-sancti grows very slowly and only gets its adult, long leaves when it is supported by a moss stake. Buy Philodendron spiritus-sancti online!
