Anthurium queremalense is an exciting and relatively newly discovered species with large, oblong leaves.
The name 'Anthurium queremalese' is not yet an accepted name for the species. The name refers to the area in Colombia where it was discovered. The species has very long leaves, up to about 1.2 m and shows similarity in appearance to the better known species, Anthurium warocqueanum which grows in the surrounding area. The plant is very rare as an indoor houseplant and has previously had to be imported.
Care.
In its natural habitat, Anthurium queremalense grows on steep rocky slopes in sunny areas. This suggests that the plant can probably also withstand our summer sun indoors.
It has been found at altitudes around 1500m, where the humidity is high but the temperature is slightly lower. Therefore aim for high humidity, around 60-70% and a soil mixture with a lot of air permeability, such as our Aroid soil . Never let the soil dry out completely but at the same time avoid drowning the roots.
Botanical description.
Anthurium queremalense has only been described in the literature twice. It was found in Colombia in an area near Queremal (hence the name). There, the species grows along the old highway between Cali and Buenaventura. The species is very common in the area. There is not much information available, but you can read a little more here.

Appearance.
The stems can grow up to 1 meter long, the petioles are 52–86 cm long, round, medium green and slightly glossy. The leaves are narrow, stiff and dark green with a velvety surface on top, while the underside is slightly paler and slightly glossy. They grow to about 120 cm long and 50 cm wide. The main veins are slightly raised on the upper side and have a narrow gray-green edge.
The flowers are arranged in spirals with 12–13 flowers visible per turn. The fruiting body can be up to 49 cm long. If you are looking for a truly unique plant, this may be something for you. Buy Anthurium queremalense online!
